Reading the Cost of Living — Clearly
Saltmarrow offers structured educational programmes for Malaysians who want to understand how price indices work, what the published numbers actually say, and how to hold that information steadily.
Our Programmes
Three Ways to Build Literacy
Each programme is educational in nature. No individual financial advice is given at any point. What we offer is the reading ability — the rest is yours to carry forward.
Reading the Numbers Workshop
A one-day workshop on how publicly published inflation and cost-of-living figures are constructed, what they measure, and where their limits lie. Participants leave as more attentive readers — not as investors or advisers.
- CPI composition and methodology
- Reading official DOSM publications
- Recognising what indices exclude
- Printed reference materials included
Household Cost Tracking Programme
Four evening sessions on recording and reviewing a household's own cost patterns over time. The programme supports calmer, more structured conversations at home — not alarm. Includes printed tracking sheets and a quarterly review workbook.

- Printed tracking sheets and workbook
- Household exemplar templates
- Quarterly review framework
The Long-Horizon Almanac Cohort
A 10-week cohort for adults aged 40 and above, combining inflation literacy with household budgeting concepts. Covers price index construction, media framing, and how to hold more structured conversations with licensed advisers about household planning.
- Ten weekly facilitated sessions
- Printed reader and closing workbook
- Peer discussion forum access
- For adults aged 40 and above
Why Saltmarrow
What Makes This Different
Most commentary on prices moves fast and speaks loudly. These programmes move slowly and speak carefully.
Observational, Not Alarmist
Content is framed as patient, observational reading — not as urgent bulletins. Participants learn to sit with data rather than react to it.
Grounded in Official Sources
All programmes work with publicly available data from DOSM and Bank Negara Malaysia — the same sources referenced in news, translated carefully for a general reader.
No Advice, No Agenda
We do not give individual financial advice. Programmes are purely educational. Participants are always encouraged to bring their learning to their own licensed advisers.
Printed, Durable Materials
Every programme includes printed reference sheets, workbooks, and templates designed to be kept and consulted over time — not discarded after the session ends.
Small, Considered Groups
Cohort sizes are kept small to allow genuine discussion. Questions are welcomed; divergent views are part of the process.
Sarawak Context Included
Materials acknowledge that price patterns in Sarawak may differ from Peninsular Malaysia figures. The programmes do not assume a one-size reading of national indices.

Common Questions
Questions We Hear Often
Who are these programmes designed for?
Adults in Malaysia who want to read published cost-of-living data more confidently. The cohort programme is specifically for those aged 40 and above. No prior economics knowledge is needed — the programmes assume only ordinary reading ability and a steady curiosity.
Do you give financial advice in any of the sessions?
No. These are educational programmes. We explain how published data is constructed and what it represents. We do not advise participants on what to do with their money, their investments, or their household decisions. For those matters, we encourage participants to consult appropriately licensed financial advisers.
Where are the sessions held?
In-person sessions are held at our premises at 22 Jalan Padungan, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak. Occasionally, group bookings from organisations may be arranged at an alternative venue. Please contact us to discuss.
How do I enrol in a programme?
Use the enquiry form below or call our office. We'll confirm current scheduling, available places, and any upcoming intake dates. Enrolment is confirmed on receipt of payment and a brief registration form.
What does the fee cover?
All printed materials — reference sheets, workbooks, tracking templates, and readers — are included in the fee. Refreshments are provided at in-person sessions. There are no hidden costs or follow-on upsells.
Is there a refund if I need to withdraw?
Withdrawal requests made more than seven days before the programme start date receive a full refund. Later requests are considered case by case. Please contact us directly — we try to be practical and fair in these situations.
Can organisations book places in bulk for staff?
Yes. Group bookings of five or more participants from the same organisation may qualify for adjusted pricing. Please write to us with details of your group and preferred timeframe and we will respond within two working days.
